I found these pictures of Jehan Al Sadat with a caption claiming that they were taken during her dissertation defense. This doesn’t make much sense, since she got her PhD in 86 and her husband (present at this event) was assassinated in 81.
Anyway, I hope I find a dictator to marry by the time I have to defend my dissertation. I’m sure it’s nice to have the room adorned like it’s your wedding day, and have a crowd recruited to cheer you on. Not to mention having the president present to intimidate the dissertation committee.
Judging from the expression on everyone’s face, it appears that her thesis wasn’t all that impressive (i.e. they all look bored as fuck.)
